Woman thrown to the ground during Charlestown robbery

A WOMAN was thrown to the ground and her hair pulled when she was robbed while using an ATM at Charlestown.

The robbery happened about 2pm yesterday.

The 21-year-old went to an ATM in Pearson Street.

Police said that while using the cash machine, she heard footsteps.

Presuming it was someone wanting the use the ATM, the woman stepped aside as she put her card and cash in her bag.

As she did, a man grabbed her from behind and tried to snatch her bag.

The woman hung on to the bag, causing her to fall.

The robber pulled her hair and demanded her purse.

She screamed to alert other members of the public.

The man ran off and witnesses followed, but he fled through a car park.

He is described as being aged in his 30s, about 170 centimetres tall, of slim build, with a fair complexion.

He was wearing dark-coloured tracksuit pants with stripes down the side, white shoes, and a zip-up jacket with a motif on the front.
