NATHAN Outteridge and Iain Jensen will be Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Region's only gold medallists at the London Olympics after disappointing defeats for Simon Orchard, Jenni Screen and Suzy Batkovic overnight.
Orchard, the Maitland-raised midfielder, was stunned after the Australian men's hockey team were upset 4-2 by Germany in the semi-final, having led 1-0 and 2-1.
It was Australia's first defeat in six games.
The Kookaburras will play off for a bronze medal on Sunday 12.30am AEST.

Screen and Batkovic suffered a more predictable loss when the Australian Opals basketball team were beaten 86-73 by the United States, who are the reigning three-time Olympic champions.
Like the Kookaburras, the Opals now have to regroup and try to salvage a bronze medal.
Their third-versus-fourth play-off will be on Sunday at 4am AEST.
Outteridge and Jensen, the childhood mates from Wangi Wangi, became the first Lake Macquarie sailors to win Olympic gold on Wednesday when they took out the 49er skill category by a comprehensive margin.
Merewether swimmer Angie Bainbridge collected a silver medal for her role as a heat swimmer in Australia's 4x200-metre freestyle relay team.
