Hunter reeling after wild weekend weather

WILD and windy conditions have made for an unpleasant weekend in the Hunter.

Organisers of the Wallsend Winter Carnavale postponed the event last night due to the dismal weather.

The event will be re-organised at a later date.

On Friday afternoon, winds blew the roof from an aged care building at the Calvary Mater Hospital. No one was injured and services were unaffected.

The State Emergency Service had almost 100 calls for assistance across the region, mostly in coastal areas. Minor flooding was reported on the Tomaree Peninsula.
