AS thunder rumbled around the Hunter last night, several storm lovers rushed outdoors to catch a glimpse of the oncoming onslaught.
Like a scene from an armageddon film, ominous clouds surrounded onlookers as a blanket of darkness descended on the region.
Steven Forward, of Merewether, went straight up to Strzelecki Lookout for the best view of Mother Nature’s show of force.
‘‘I’m absolutely loving it,’’ he said last night.
‘‘I chase lightning just as a hobby.’’
Mr Forward and his mate Karen Wilesmith, of Argenton, are part of the Newcastle Sundance photography group.
‘‘Me and Karen have been [chasing storms] together for the last few months,’’ Mr Forward said.
‘‘We go pretty much anywhere from Sydney up to Scone.’’
Despite the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a severe thunderstorm warning for the Hunter and Central Coast, Newcastle missed out on any major rain falls.
