This is an excerpt from the Newcastle Youth Orchestra's concert The Places You'll Go, performed at Newcastle Civic Theatre last Saturday, April 5.
They may be young but as the video shows that doesn't mean they lack experience or professionalism.
The fiddlers in guest act Pumpkin Juice have been playing together since they were four years old and are already seasoned veterans of the folk circuit including an appearance at the Edinburgh Festival.
The orchestra itself formed last year and features the cream of young musicians aged 14-24 from across the Hunter.
The Places You'll Go concert was part of the orchestra's Kids Classics series aimed at younger music lovers.
Loosely inspired by the Dr Suess book of the same name, The Places You'll Go took the audience on a musical journey around the globe with popular pieces from Brahms to ABBA.
As the orchestra played giant puppets accentuated each piece, including a bullfight with Bizet's Carmen and a posse of cowboys riding through the audience for the bright and brassy Hoedown from the Rodeo Suite by Aaron Copland.
The NYO is taking the show on the road around regional NSW in June and their next public performance is The Best of British, a proms-inspired concert at The Newcastle Conservatorium in September.
