THE Newcastle Jets mixed form this season has continued, going down 1-0 to Sydney FC in their W-League clash at Magic Park on Saturday.
The home side was coming off an impressive performance last round, where they trounced Adelaide United 4-0 away from home, but signs of that display were not evident in the first half against Sydney.
The visitors dominated most of the early stages and struck the only goal of the match in the 29th minute when Jasmyne Spencer fired home past Jets keeper Claire Coehlo.
To their credit the Jets were a much improved side in the second half, but the Sydney defense remained resolute, with the Jets unable to find an opening.
Amber Neilson had the best chance to snatch an equaliser in the final minute after a good ball from Khali Dobson, but Neilson fluffed her shot, ensuring Sydney would take home the three points.
The defeat means the Jets now have three losses from their five games so far this season.
The Jets will travel to Sydney next Sunday to meet the Western Sydney Wanderers.
