Coaches in firing line

NOW that Olympic competition is over for another four years and the post-mortems will begin into the performances of our athletes, I would like to question the efforts of our coaches and support staff.

I have no doubt the athletes all gave of their very best but questions must be asked as to why so many were so far from their best.

Isn’t it the coach’s job to prepare his/her chargers for their optimum performance when it counts most?

Our great hope in the pool, James Magnussen, pictured, has said that he was overawed by the hype. Why?
