A $2 MILLION police station is planned at Morisset, documents lodged with Lake Macquarie City Council show. The plan includes demolishing the old station and building a new one.
The new station would include officers from the Lake Macquarie Local Area Command, Police Transport Command, State Protection Group and Dog Unit, the documents said.
The state government had promised to build a new police station at Morisset, but reneged in 2013 after a cost blowout with the new Belmont police headquarters. A plan then emerged for Morisset station to get a refurbishment only.
However, the plan to build a new station had been revived, Lake Macquarie MP Greg Piper said in a newsletter.
"Plans to boost police presence at Morisset have progressed substantially, with a government announcement that a transport police unit of 19 officers will move into the station this year," Mr Piper said.
A new station had been proposed at Toronto, but this too was scrapped in favour of a "large-scale extension and renovation".
Mr Piper had sought details about when new plans for the Toronto station would be lodged.
"I understand the planned upgrade will be substantial, involving a completely new interior fit-out," he said.
