A close race to become Port Stephens' first publicly-elected mayor is also down to the wire, with a result expected in the next few days.
Counts today have trimmed an early lead by former mayor Cr Bruce MacKenzie, placing him less than 100 votes ahead of rival Central Ward councillor Geoff Dingle.
About 1500 postal votes are due to be tallied tomorrow.
