Hunter Stadium will become completely smoke-free from October 1 following increased community support for the smoking ban at stadiums across the country.
Hunter Stadium will follow in the footsteps of Venues NSW administered Parramatta Stadium and Win Stadium at Wollongong.
For many years patrons have been restricted to designated locations on the perimeter of the venue, away from enclosed grandstands and seating areas.
The decision has been made for Hunter Stadium to introduce the new policy and meet the expectations of the wider community and act in accordance with the Smoke-free Environment Act 2000.
It is hoped the policy will promote a more family friendly environment.
New signage will be erected across the stadium to inform patrons of the policy change, with public service announcements throughout event days.
Stadium staff will be able to assist patrons with inquires regarding approved smoking locations outside the venue and the pass out system that has been put in place.
