NOBBY’S Lighthouse today played host to 50 representatives of Australia’s largest ukulele community, set out to promote Newkulele, a festival dedicated to their favourite instrument.
Dressed in Hawaiian shirts and, described by one onlooker as ‘‘a group of people bought together by a love of the Uke’’, the diverse group belted out popular hits over the break-wall.
‘‘It’s so popular here in Newcastle, it’s just great fun’’ said Newkulele organiser, Jane Jelbart.
The festival will be hosted at the Wickham Croatian Club between the 26th and 28th of October.
