AUBREY Brooks ("Fight for this steel city" Letters 12/10), no government, state or federal, can save our industries.
Governments can use taxpayers' money to support industries and drag out their demise - often at huge cost.
But it is up to Australians, all of us, to decide if we wish to keep buying cheap imports, produced in low-wage, low-cost countries, or support local business by buying local products.
These may cost more but will give our children jobs and help secure the future of all Australians.
Australian-made products have a value to our community far greater than the additional price we may pay.
