A Hunter man stands accused of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter for six years from when the girl was six years old.
Newcastle-based detectives from the Child Abuse Squad arrested the 55-year-old man on Friday and later charged him with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and seven counts of committing an aggravated act of indecency.
A police statement alleged that the 13-year-old victim had told some school friends in August that she had been indecently and sexually assaulted on several occasions by her mother’s de facto partner.
‘‘It is alleged the abuse occurred over a period of six years from when the girl was six years old,’’ the statement said.
The man has been granted conditional bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on November 28.
