Crews battle Howes Valley bushfire

A Howes Valley bushfire spanning about 40 hectares has closed the Putty Road south of Singleton.

Four Rural Fire Service crews are on scene battling the fast-moving grass fire, which a spokesman said had moved up a hill away from Putty Road.

Three aircraft including a chopper and two planes are also assisting the firefighters’ efforts.

The Rural Fire Service spokesman said the Putty Road, which has been closed since about 1.20pm this afternoon between Milbrodale and Wilberforce, was expected to remain closed due to heavy smoke in the area.

The NSW Transport Management Centre said earlier there is no scheduled time for the road to reopen, with drivers advised to take other routes until at least later tonight.
