Maryland swamp fire

FIRE crews spent four hours fighting a scrub fire in swamp land near Maryland last night.

Nine NSW Fire Brigades crews were called to the blaze after residents reported flames in inaccessible land about 9.40pm.

By 1.40am, the crews had extinguished the fire after it had burnt out about 25 hectares of swamp land.

A crew remained at the scene to continue patrolling the area until this morning.

It is not known how the fire started or how long it may have been smouldering before it was reported.

Investigations are continuing.
