A truck driver who allegedly ran naked from a domestic dispute and bashed a security guard remains in a critical condition in hospital after being revived by police called to catch him.
The arrest at Tomago yesterday followed a bizarre chain of events which allegedly started with an attempt to take some synthetic drugs and ended with rescue squad officers working to save the man’s life.
Port Stephens police will allege the Queensland truck driver, 44, was naked inside his prime mover with a semi-naked South Australian woman, 42, when they took the synthetic drugs about 1.20pm.
Police said the pair began to argue before they both left the truck, the naked man allegedly chasing the semi-naked woman.
A passing ambulance stopped and helped the woman as the man allegedly broke into a nearby business and assaulted a security guard.
‘‘Other employees of the business allegedly assisted to restrain the male who then stopped breathing,’’ a police statement said.
Police alleged that other employees helped restrain the man, who had stopped breathing.
Police rescue squad detectives revived the man and took him to hospital.
His condition was yesterday listed as critical.
The woman has been released from hospital with minor injuries.
