A WOMAN is being treated for meningococcal disease at a Hunter New England District hospital.
Hunter New England Health said the woman was in a satisfactory condition and doctors had prescribed antibiotics to her close contacts.
The antibiotics work to eradicate meningococcal bacteria that may have been the source of the infection.
