GOSFORD have earned a shot at retaining their Hunter Coast Premier Hockey League title after a thrilling 2-1 victory in the semi-final against South Newcastle at Broadmeadow on Sunday.
They will play North Newcastle in Saturday’s decider.
After the semi was locked 1-all at the end of regulation time, Rhiley Carr scored in drop-off extra time, when both teams had been reduced to seven men. It was Carr’s second goal of the game. Kyle Bosworth scored for Souths.
Gosford coach Gordon Cracknell said the reduction of numbers in extra time was a challenge for his players, but added “it was good that the game wasn’t decided by a penalty shoot-out”.
In the women’s grand final, Regals will play Central.
