WITH undoubtedly expert timing the Shaolin Warriors are bringing their dynamic kung fu production back to Newcastle. But fans better be as fast as lightning, with the spectacular to perform just one show, at Civic Theatre, on Thursday night.

SKILL: Wang Changnian and Lu Zichao get some air in Sydney. The Chinese Shaolin Warriors are touring Australia. They were last in Newcastle in 2011.

Billed as the “original kung fu spectacular” Shaolin Warriors showcase death-defying stunts, and 18 traditional weapons, in what could have been just a little bit frightening if not performed with such mastery.

While everybody is kung fu fighting, the show, sponsored by China National Arts Fund, also features rarely-seen Buddhist meditation. Twenty masters follow the journey from a child’s initiation into the monastery, to achieving fully-fledged warrior status. From balancing on sharp spears to smashing marble slabs, the troupe’s synchronization and proficiency have impressed audiences for 16 years. They last visited Newcastle in 2011.
