Newcastle Herald Short Takes: Thursday, September 22, 2016

THE costly steps and platform built at the Bogey Hole should come as a reminder: don't mess with nature. Make the wall sound, repair original stepping if needed. Use the place accordingly.

Donna Norris, Glendale

BY Australian planes participating in the latest of wrongly bombed targets that kill thousands of allies and civilians we have just added to the list of those that hate us and would do us harm. How much more damage must be done before the futility of participating in a civil war where we are aiding a president who is accused of war crimes against his own people will be realised?

Allan Earl, Thornton

TO Dave McTaggart (Short Takes 20/9): Beer is the one thing that inspires me to get out of bed and go to work six days a week. The thought of an icy cold brew at the end of the day with my workmates is one of the simple pleasures in life. The Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills brews the best beer in the world – I hope you get to try it one day.

Steve Barnett, Fingal Bay

IN memory of Rob Mulddon, our milkman over the past 50 years, three times a week. Even delivered our milk on the night of the Sygna disaster. Rob said there were power lines down in front of him and behind so he just kept on going.

Trixee Davidson, Kotara

WELL done NBN – no replay of the local rugby league grand final again. In years gone by the match of the day from No.1 Sports Ground was shown late Saturday night in glorious black and white, yet NBN can’t show the local season decider.

Jack Harborne, Maryville

SINCE when was there a "Pacific Street" side to Newcastle station's facade, Colin Atkins (Letters, 17/9)? Pacific Street is one block east of Newcastle station and on the other (southern) side of the road (Scott Street). Are you thinking of Watt Street?

Maree Raftos, Newcastle

OUR region has been represented by many amazing sports persons but surely there has never been anyone more inspirational than Kurt Fearnley. His retirement from Paralympic sports would seem to be the perfect time to announce the naming of the Kurt Fearnley Stand at Hunter Stadium.

Dave McTaggart, Edgeworth

MELBOURNE port leased for $9.7 billion. Who to? Queensland future fund QIC and China's CIC. You can forget about Uber and their Taxi takeover. Won't be long we'll be pulling rickshaws.

Ken Harvey, Warners Bay

I TOTALLY agree with Maree Raftos (Letters, 21/9). I too find Tom Edwards' views are definitely not mine nor those of most people I know.

Sue Fower, Waratah
