CATHOLIC Archbishop of Adelaide Philip Wilson has failed in his bid to halt criminal proceedings against him that he allegedly concealed the sexual abuse of a boy by another Hunter priest.

NSW Supreme Court Justice Monika Schmidt dismissed an appeal on Friday against a decision rejecting his bid to permanently stop the case.

Archbishop Wilson became the most senior Catholic clergyman in the world to be charged with concealing the child sex crime of another priest, the late Jim Fletcher, after allegations a 15-year-old boy told him in 1976 that Fletcher had committed “gross offences” against him when he was 10.

He strongly denies the allegation.
