MORE than 5000 Color Run participants have descended on Tulkaba Park, Teralba, to be doused in a rainbow of powder for what has been billed as the “happiest five kilometres on the planet”.
Newcastle-raised internet yoga, style and travel blogger Sjana Elise was the ambassador for event sponsor Sportsgirl, a partner of the tropical-island themed event.
The Color Run started with a zumba warm up and concluded with a finish festival with music and dancing.
Participants were covered in – and threw – multi-coloured food grade cornstarch, but also enjoyed a slime zone and a rainbow foam zone.
Organisers said around 70 per cent of the participants had never experienced an event like The Color Run before – or tackled a five kilometre course.
The Color Run race director Rob McElligott said it had been “awesome” bringing the event to Lake Macquarie for the first time after three years at Newcastle Jockey Club.
“The energy and community spirit was incredible as people came together with friends and family to experience a small slice of tropical paradise,” he said.
The Color Run is neither a charity nor a non-profit organisation, but encouraged participants to seek sponsorship to raise funds for Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia, the Cancer Council, Heart Kids, and the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
