Man airlifted to hospital after fall in Port Stephens bushland

An elderly male has been flown to John Hunter Hospital after collapsing at Yacaaba Headland this afternoon.

Emergency services and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service were called out to assist the 79-year-old about 1.30pm.

The man had suffered a fall about halfway up the lookout, which is just south of Hawks Nest.

Stuck in an inaccessible area, paramedics and rescue crews were forced to winch the man from the headland after stabilising him in a special stretcher.

He was due to arrive at John Hunter Hospital about 2.30pm.
