Youth, 17, charged with robbing two German teens after they got off a train at Victoria Street, East Maitland

A YOUTH has been arrested over the late-night knife robbery of two German teens at East Maitland.

The 19-year-old au pairs, in Australia to live and work for local families, were approached and threatened by up to three men after getting off a train at Victoria Street station at 12.15am on Sunday.

The victims told police that one of the attackers pulled a knife before escaping with the girls’ handbags.

Central Hunter police arrested a 17-year-old youth on Sunday night and later charged him with two counts of robbery whilst armed, two counts of steal from person, drug offences and intimidating police.

It will be alleged the youth was the attacker who produced the knife and threatened the women.

He was refused bail to face Broadmeadow Childrens Court.

Two other youths were also arrested, but have been released without charge pending further investigations.
