SHAKESPEARE. Roald Dahl. Dracula. Sydney Symphony. Indigenous dance and drama. Disco circus fusion. The 2017 Civic Theatre subscription season of 15 offerings plus two comedy festivals announced on Wednesday is quality with a touch of daring.
The launch included a performance by Newcastle dancer Kassidy Waters giving her reflection of The 7 Stages of Grieving, one of the shows on the program. The powerful play about the grief of the Aboriginal people and reconciliation stars Chenoa Deemal.
Other highlights include Jasper Jones, a coming-of-age production based on Craig Silvey’s book, direct from a season at the Belvoir in Sydney; Velvet, a disco circus extravaganza starring Marcia Hines and dance production Gudirr Gudirr by the Marrugeko Theatre of Brooome.
