NSW Country Championship opening bowlers Daniel Morton and Thomas Allen have been cleared to play in Newcastle Steel’s must-win encounter against St George at Hurstville Oval on Sunday.

Morton (hamstring) and Allen (ankle) missed the weekend’s back-to-back victories at No.1 Sportsground but Steel coach Shane Burley has included both of them in a full-strength 14-man squad.

“They’re not too bad and should be right to play,” Burley said.

Newcastle and St George are two of five teams on 12 competition points and vying for three available play-off spots in last round NSW Premier T20 Cup matches.

Newcastle’s quotient (0.7687) has them fifth overall on the Sydney Sixers conference ladder but that won’t affect their approach according to Burley.

“We’re 100 per cent focused on the win,” he said. “If you start worrying about the quotient you don’t get the win and it doesn’t matter.”

Play starts at 2.30pm.
