FIRST, before we begin this Topic, a disclaimer.
Taylor Regan – professional footballer, self-proclaimed “no-nonsense defender”, local kid done good – has no affiliation with the Taylor Regan Facebook fan page or any of its subsidiaries. He’s got nothing to do with it. OK? And none of his family or friends run it either.
So you can’t get him on that.
Regan, a Dudley junior who played five seasons for the Newcastle Jets until he was unceremoniously shown the door in 2015, is now playing for Adelaide United.
After being given a second chance in the A-League, Regan has endeared himself to the Adelaide faithful with several resolute performances.
And last week the club announced he had signed a two-year contract extension to remain in South Australia with wife Jess and young son Bodhi.
Once a fresh-faced pretty-boy with David Beckham-esque hair swept across his mug, Regan is now that central defender that every team needs.
The guy with the shaved melon and crazy glint in his eye who might just headbutt you or shred your Achilles with his studs.
And he says stuff like this now.
“It doesn’t matter who we play against, I’m always going to give 110 per cent,” Regan said recently.
“The demeanour that I go out with is that I’ll fight, bite and scratch — I’ll do whatever I have to do to try and win that contest.”
If you're a football fan then you love hearing that sort of stuff.
But, surely, we thought, there is a limit to the level of love the common fan can have for the great man.
Recently someone pointed us to the Taylor Regan fan page on Facebook.
It is hilarious.
“A page dedicated to our lord, our saviour, our hero, Sir Taylor Regan,” the description on the page reads. “This page serves a purpose of showing our gratitude and appreciation :).”
The posts are even better.
One compares him to other religious figures, posting his photo with the headline “different cultures interpretations of Jesus”.
Another lists him among Australia’s deadliest animals.
Yet another shows a preferred Adelaide United team formation graphic with Regan slotted in at every position save for goalkeeper, a spot in defense and one in midfield.
But there was one post recently, that was a little different from the others.
“He’s cute,” it reads. “He’s tall. “He’s got gorgeous eyes. “And a stunning smile. “I didn’t say a name, but he popped into your head, didn’t he?”
And then a picture of Regan.
We repeat, Taylor Regan has nothing to do with the operations of the Taylor Regan Facebook fan page.
SHEERAN TO APPEAR ON GoT
TOPICS was a latecomer to Game of Thrones.
We’d heard the hype, been told by everyone we know that we “just have to watch it”, but we didn’t listen.
There’s a certain satisfying stubbornness in not doing something that absolutely everyone is telling you to do.
Then, late last year, we caved and binged the whole bloody six seasons.
It was incredible.
Then we caught up and, just like everyone else, we had to wait.
Wait until July 16, 2017.
We saw a story this week that Ed Sheeran is going to make a guest appearance in season 7 because, and get this, actress Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, is a fan.
Umm, that’s great for Maisie, but get back to making the dang show, amirite?
