KNIGHTS officials have not ruled out the prospect of trying to sign veteran North Queensland prop Matt Scott.
Scott suffered a season-ending knee injury playing against the Broncos last weekend, which could hardly have come at a worse time for the 31-year-old.
Despite rumours that he had agreed to re-sign with the Cowboys, the Herald understands Scott’s manager contacted the Knights last week to deny that was the case and insist that he was still weighing up his options.
Newcastle maintain they have not tabled an offer, and any potential deal would now hinge on medical advice.
Meanwhile, Knights coach Nathan Brown says giant forward Pauli Pauli is “well ahead of schedule” and could resume playing in the new few weeks, having recovered from a pre-season car crash that left him with a dislocated hip.
“He’s lost eight or nine kilos since he hurt his hip, which is great, and he’s desperate to get on the field,’’ Brown said.
Brown said Pauli had been “very, very positive about his approach to his football this season” and been disciplined with his diet when he was unable to train.
