It was another tough weekend for the Hunter Hurricanes, losing all four of their National Water Polo League matches against the top-of-the-table Sydney University Lions at Lambton Pool.
For at least the third time this season the men’s and women’s teams were clean swept by their opponents in double headers.
On Saturday and Sunday the hosts conceded a collective 56 goals and scored 23, with the closest game margin being four.
The men were within range of the Lions on both occasions, down just 6-5 and then 10-7 going into the fourth and final quarters, but were eventually defeated 10-6 and 15-8 respectively.
The women were beaten 14-2 and 17-7 by the students.
Next round the Hurricanes will again attempt to play their first encounter in Newcastle Harbour, after the initial fixture was transferred in the lead up to this weekend because of unstable weather.
Hunter and the UTS Balmain Tigers will go head-to-head at Queens Wharf on Saturday before shifting back to Lambton on Sunday.
The Hurricanes’ final round games against the Adelaide Jets on April 1 and 2 may also be split between the venues.
