Hamilton-Wickham junior Kain Anderson named skipper of NSW Magenta for under-15 national carnival

KAIN Anderson has been named captain of the NSW Magenta team to contest the School Sport Australia Under-15 Cricket Championships in Queensland from Sunday.

The Hamilton-Wickham junior will lead fellow Newcastle pair Mitchell Lole (Wests) and Toby Gray (Belmont) while Nathan Hillier (Cardiff-Boolaroo) lines up for NSW Green. They open the week-long carnival against Victoria country and metropolitan respectively at Brisbane Grammar.  

* STILL on cricket and Merewether siblings, Zac and Maddie McGuigan, both feature in NSW Combined High Schools teams.

Maddie is competing at the NSW All Schools carnival in Maitland this week while Zac played in Sydney earlier this month. 

* NOVOCASTRIAN pair Tiahna Skelton and Jai McPherson will be part of the NSW team at the Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney from Sunday. They will contest the under-15 sprints and long jump events.

Meanwhile, the Australian Little Athletics Championships will take place at the same Homebush venue next month (April 22-23) following recent state versions.  

Torrie Lewis, from the Macquarie Hunter club, was a stand out performer claiming the under-12 girl’s 100 and 200 metre double which included a meet record of 25.74 seconds for the longer distance.
