A WOMAN has been pulled from the surf at Snapper Point after plunging into the water while rock fishing overnight.
Police said the 27-year-old woman was not wearing a life jacket when she slipped into the sea.
She swam to a rock ledge where her partner threw her a life ring. The woman was able to cling to the life preserver until police and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service arrived.
She was winched to safety and flown to the John Hunter Hospital as a precaution.
“She is not believed to have suffered any injuries,” police said in a statement.
The incident follows the tragic disappearance of University of Newcastle student Mohsin Awan on Sunday night.
Mr Awan was swept off rocks at Soldiers Baths at the southern end of Nobbys beach.
Police resumed a search for him on Tuesday morning.
While friends hold out hope, authorities hold grave fears for the Pakistani national.
