Paramedic our new phone book cover boy

THIS is one Jones who will stand out in the phone book.

Adamstown paramedic and retained firefighter Brian Jones will be on the cover of the Newcastle area White Pages directory for the next year.

"I told them they're lucky the book's free, because no-one would buy it," he said.

"No, I didn't expect this at all."

Mr Jones received the Royal Life Saving Society Certificate of Commendation for his efforts in the Pasha Bulker storm in 2007.

He was also called to pull his own family from their home as floodwaters rose.

Performing several rescues on his way home, the humble hero returned to helping others after he ensured his family's safety.

"Apart from going home to rescue my family, the rest of that day is a bit of a blur," Mr Jones said.

"I'm very humbled by the nomination and selection to feature on this year's cover."

The directories will be delivered from tomorrow.
