Philippa Anderson bows out in round four of Barbados Surf Pro

UPDATE: Philippa Anderson bowed out with last in her round four heat of the Barbados Surf Pro despite a single wave score of 9.17.

The Merewether surfer managed a back-up score of just 5.43, which left her needing a 6 to move into the top two of the four-woman heat and the quarter-finals.

Australian Claire Belivacqua went on to beat Hawaiian Alessa Quizon in the final on Monday.

Anderson progressed on Thursday to round four with a two-wave score of 15.53 out of 20 to top her four-woman heat at the 3000-point World Surf League qualifying series event. Anderson, who is eighth on the QS, is top seed at Barbados.

“It was super fun after waiting a few days to surf so it was great to get that out of the way,” Anderson said. “It’s cool to be the top seed, but you have to look at it like any other event. There’s not a lot of pressure and I’m just trying enjoy it here.”
