THE Grainery Church has marked one of the most important days on the Christian calendar, Easter Sunday, by welcoming more than 500 people to a service to celebrate Jesus rising from the dead.
Senior Pastor Sue Irwin said the church held this year’s Easter services at St Philip’s Christian College at Waratah, after outgrowing its former Tighes Hill home.
“The Bible says if we don’t believe in the resurrection we may as well not be Christians,” she said. “People have to take a step of faith and give it a go. Jesus’ rising shows defeat over death and sin, or being self-centered.”
Senior Pastor Irwin said it was also a celebration of rebirth and new beginnings.
Diocese of Maitland Newcastle Vicar General Father Brian Mascord said Easter was a time to “reflect and celebrate together as one”.
