CHILEAN champions Audax Italiano will take on the Newcastle Jets in July.
The four-time Chilean League champions will head to Australia for a match on July 8 in what chief executive Lawrie McKinna dubbed a huge opportunity for the Jets, who parted ways with coach Mark Jones on Easter Sunday.
“Audax Italiano may not be a household name in Australia however they are a very competitive and financially sustainable club playing in a challenging 16 team league,” he said.
“This represents an unique opportunity for us to be exposed to and interact with a club that we would not otherwise encounter.”
Tickets for the friendly will be offered to members first on Wednesday.
Martin Lee and McKinna visiting the club in March sparked the concept.
The July timeframe puts the match near the end of the Jets’ pre-season.
Jets members can buy pre-sale tickets between 9am Wednesday and 9am Friday.
Tickets go on general sale on April 24.
