John Sullivan has been in Australian rules for more than five decades and this weekend he notches up a remarkable milestone.
The West Wallsend 71-year-old will umpire in his 1000th match in the Hunter and Central Coast regions, across both senior and junior competitions.
“It’s nice to achieve the milestone, although in hindsight it is only a number,” said Sullivan, who has 19 first-grade deciders to his name. He will today officiate in the Black Diamond AFL return to revamped Feighan Oval with winless Warners Bay hosting unbeaten Cardiff.
