Lorcan Redmond was blown away when he received his maiden Australian triathlon uniform at home in Hamilton recently.

The 16-year-old opened the green and gold race suit to find past champions of the sport from this country worked into the design.

The representative clothing will now work as inspiration before being worn for his maiden appearance at the Elite Junior World Triathlon Championships in the Netherlands in September.

“It’s like a heritage suit with all past Australian world champions and Olympic champions on it, a tribute to the history of the sport,” Redmond said.

“I haven’t used the suit yet, but it will be an honour to be able to pull it on.”

As the youngest member of the three-person national team, which also includes Queenslander Matt Hauser and Western Australian Liam McCoach, the upcoming trip will be about experience.

“This year is more about getting a feel for it, because I hope to have plenty more opportunities in the future,” he said.

Redmond was named last week after claiming a fourth straight School Sport Australia triathlon crown.
