A CAR has been struck by a train after becoming stuck on the tracks at a Central Coast level crossing, police say.
A 65-year-old woman had attempted a left hand turn as she drove over the crossing on Rawson Road, near Railway Street at Woy Woy, shortly after 6pm on Friday, police said.
The car became stuck on the tracks, just as the boom gates and bells activated at the crossing for an oncoming train, police said.
Members of the public attempted to help the woman, but the car was not able to be moved. A train travelling on the northern line approached the crossing and applied the emergency brakes, but was unable to stop completely, resulting in a minor collision with the car.
No one was in the car at the time and no one was injured in the collision.
There was minor damage to the car.
Both the train and car drivers were breath tested with a negative result.
The train was allowed to continue its journey while the woman's car was taken from the tracks with minor damage.
Police will continue with their inquiries and are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report information via the Crime Stoppers website.
