Newcastle West building fire contained to one unit, man treated for smoke inhalation

A MAN has been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in block of units at Newcastle West on Monday night.

Firefighters were called to the Bellevue Street fire shortly after 10pm.

The fire was contained to one unit on the eighth floor of the building.

There was no major damage to the outside of the building, however, firefighters said the unit was damaged by smoke.

Dozens of the building’s residents, who were promptly evacuated, lined Bellevue Street.

There was a large response from emergency services, with the building located in a heavily populated area.

Firefighters were investigating the cause of the fire.
