REVIEW: Pond - The Weather - 3.5 stars

POND were obviously big fans of Tame Impala’s last album Currents. The ‘70s soul and synth influences that coloured that record are heavily present in the Perth psychedelic band’s The Weather, their seventh album in eight years. Not surprisingly, Tame Impala’s mastermind Kevin Parker is again in the producer’s chair.

Pond have always made beautifully weird music. This time around they have channelled Prince (Sweep Me Off My Feet) and ‘80s pop (Colder Than Ice). However, they haven’t forgotten their roots. Edge Of The World Pt. 2 sounds like Pink Floyd’s Eclipse, but with references to Gina Rinehart, Lateline and El Nino.

There’s even a festive song (All I Want for Christmas is a Tascam 388) to keep listeners on their toes.
