Charlestown’s Rene Ferguson hopes to miss only one game despite early fears he had fractured his left foot in an injury-time tackle in the 3-0 loss to Weston on Sunday.

Ferguson, a shining light for Charlestown this season, limped off Weston Park after hit with a sliding, studs-up challenge, which prompted a yellow card. The forward, though, was confident he had escaped a fracture and was eyeing only two to four weeks on the sidelines. Charlestown have the bye this weekend.

His injury continues a tough run for the Blues, who lost a third of their initial squad to injuries and departures. They slipped to eighth with the defeat at Weston.

“It hurt but it didn’t hurt as much as the loss,” Ferguson said. “But it’s pretty hard when half of your team isn’t firing. It’s hard to get up.”

Blues coach Shane Pryce said the performance was one of their worst this year but he was “under no illusions. I know the type of players we have and the depth of our squad. It is what it is and we just have to get on with it.”
