A YOUNG child has died and four other people have been injured after a four-wheel drive rolled on the Golden Highway at Cassilis on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the Golden Highway near the intersection of Ulan Road about 2.30pm following reports of a crash.
Police said initial investigations suggest the four-wheel drive lost control and rolled on the highway.
One of the five occupants of the car, a young child, died at the scene.
The four remaining occupants have all been treated paramedics for rushed to Dubbo Hospital.
A crime scene has been established and investigations are continuing.
The highway has been closed in both directions Ulan Road and Vinegaroy Road.
The transport management centre reported at 4pm that light vehicles heading east were being diverted into Vinegaroy Road, while westbound light vehicles were being diverted onto Ulan Road.
Heavy vehicles were being held on site.
Motorists were advised to delay their trip or allow plenty of extra travel time.
