For over 45 years, ParaQuad NSW has supported people with spinal cord injury and similar neurological conditions through its branch in Wickham.
Formed in 1961, ParaQuad NSW exists to “support people of all ages with spinal or other health conditions to be independent”.
A central premise of independence is that people with spinal cord injury should be able to make decisions to achieve their choices in life.
ParaQuad NSW aims to support them in their decision where possible through a variety of services offered.
This includes ParaQuad NSW Clinical Services, which specialises in providing assessments, recommendations, therapy, equipment prescriptions, environmental reviews and skill development support for people across their lifespan for people who have the following disabilities:
- Spinal cord injury
- Spina bifida
- Acquired brain injury
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Other degenerative diseases of the spinal cord.
They also provide Peer Support, community social participation activities, and a unique facility in NSW offering supported and transitional accommodation.
It is therefore well placed to provide the high standard of support required by the community.
With the NDIS in full swing in the Hunter/New England region, the need for high quality services has never been stronger.
Personal care services in particular are in high demand, but for people with more complex disabilities such as spinal cord injury, it can be hard finding well trained carers.
This is where organisations such as ParaQuad NSW come in. Having been involved in the NDIS since the 2013 trial, ParaQuad NSW has had a long history of providing personal care services to people with spinal cord injury or similar health conditions.
Through their experienced clinical team, ParaQuad personal carers receive thorough training to service a wide range of client needs associated with more complex disabilities.
For Michael Barnes, this has made all the difference. “ParaQuad was there from day one. Their specialised knowledge in spinal cord injury and the ability to access not only services, but also healthcare products from BrightSky have given me peace of mind.”
BrightSky Australia is ParaQuad NSW’s retail supplier and all proceeds are used to continue to support the community.
ParaQuad NSW conducts training services across the country through its BeBright educational services for clinicians.
