PREMIERS Hamilton moved to the top of the table after a controversial 20-18 win over the previously unbeaten Wanderers at Passmore Oval on Saturday.

In other games, Lake Macquarie overpowered Maitland 39-24 at Walters Park, Nelson Bay scored 14 unanswered points to beat The Waratahs 14-7, University came from 8-0 down to overrun Singleton 45-8 at Bernie Callan Oval and Southern Beaches won a slufest with Merewether 26-15 at Calland Field.

RUGBY LEAGUE

Macquarie Scorpions bounced back to form with 22-16 win over Central at Lyall Peacock Field. The Scorpions suffered their first lost at home in nearly two years to the Butcher Boys in a catch-up game a week ago, but were back to winning ways on Saturday.

In the other match, Lakes United came back from 16-16 down at half time to storm past Kurri Kurri 32-22 at Kurri Sportsground.

On Sunday, South Newcastle host Cessnock and Western Suburbs are at home to Maitland.

Former Jets youth striker was a surprise inclusion and scored the final goal as Lambton Jaffas powered past Weston 5-0 at Eden Oval.
