ERNIE Merrick’s Newcastle Jets will have their first hit-out next week after the club announced three friendlies against Hunter clubs before the FFA Cup begins.
Weston Workers Bears FC, Broadmeadow Magic FC and Hamilton Olympic FC will all take on the Jets, with the Bears up first on July 11.
The Rockwell Automation Park clash will be followed with a July 19 battle with Broadmeadow at Magic Park, with Darling Street Oval hosting the third and final match on August 2.
All kick off at 7pm, with host clubs determining admission prices.
More games against NPL clubs could be scheduled depending on the Jets’ FFA Cup fortunes, the club said.
Merrick said the games would give the Newcastle Jets a shot at engaging with the Hunter football community as well as preparing his players.
“I am looking forward to observing the local NPL players and hopefully the lads from Weston, Broadmeadow and Hamilton are excited by the opportunity also, because you never know when a player with potential may pop up,” he said.
“It’s important for us to start playing competitive friendlies against local sides that are match fit and eager to impress.”
