Newcastle Herald Short Takes: Wednesday, July 12, 2017

I'M starting a club in the fight against fossil fuels and coal. To be a member with voting rights, just get your power disconnected.

Steve Gibson, Greta

TYPICAL Knights, so sad. If you can't blame McGuigan or Brown, who can you?

Bill Slicer, Tighes Hill

HOLD your head high Brock Lamb. Your great kicking in the first half kept us in the game. Show the knockers what a true champion you are and get out there on Saturday and make us all proud against those rotten Broncos.

Dave McTaggart, Edgeworth

TO Niko Leka (Letters, 10/7): What a ridiculous version of our national anthem. Australia has been more than welcoming of refugees over the years. Australia is what it is because of our proud heritage and the majority sing our national anthem with pride and heads held high.

Brad Hill, Singleton

IN reply to Donal McIntyre (Short Takes, 8/7): the working class (me) also enjoy art and culture, however I find Newcastle art gallery very drab and unwelcoming and so tend not to go, an upgrade is well overdue.

Sue Fower, Waratah

I AM searching for a very kind couple who walked my dog home at Blacksmiths on Monday, May 15. Please contact me via letters@theherald.com.au. Many thanks to the lady who got out of her car and rescued my dog after I fell and the policeman who called the ambulance for me. What a wonderful help they were. My sincere thanks to all.

Irene Harvey, Blacksmiths

WHY aren't Supercars supplying generators to all the businesses affected by the power cuts on Saturday? This should be mandatory. Another fiasco for Newcastle.

Graeme Bennett, Warners Bay

SEEMS we constantly hear about how the Australian old age pension plan could run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare and illegal immigration support running out of money? What's interesting is that the first group "worked for" their money, but the second group didn't.

Col Parkins, Wallsend

YET another call to sack the coach of a team because the team is not winning. There is a limit to how much a coach can do from the sidelines. How about putting part of the blame onto the actual members playing the game on the field? This happens in all sports. Who gets the blame when the coach is replaced and the team still cannot win?

Meryl Pickles, Macquarie Hills

THE POLLS

SHOULD the state government release a cost breakdown and business case for the Newcastle light rail?

Yes 70.4%, No 29.6%
