Champion Cessnock jockey Robert Thompson will step into the unknown when he chases a fifth Rarmornie Handicap victory at Grafton on Wednesday.
Thompson will ride O'Reilly's Revenge for Kembla Grange trainer Paul Murray in the listed $160,000 race he won twice with The Jackal (2007, ’08) and also aboard Big Money (2014) and Youthful Jack (2013).
Thompson had long associations with all of his Ramornie winners but will mount O'Reilly's Revenge for the first time on Wednesday.
He admitted to not knowing much about O’Reilly’s Revenge and hoped “he’s half as good as those ones” he’d won on in the event.
Thompson’s good friend, Cessnock trainer Jeremy Sylvester, accepted with Aomen and Three Sheets but scratched the former after drawing poorly. There were two other scratchings, which allowed Three Sheets to get a start.
Scone trainer Brett Cavanough’s The Monstar was topweight for the Rarmornie.
