Kate Bush fans dance in Newcastle’s King Edward Park | photos, video

THE only thing better than dancing like Kate Bush in a red dress, scores of Novocastrians declared on the weekend, is doing it twice.

King Edward Park was a suitably gloomy stand-in for the wiley, windy moors on Saturday for the Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever, a global dance celebration of the English singer-songwriter’s beloved hit. There were even a few Heathcliffs.

“There were Kates with beards and there were loads of kids as well. There were a couple of people in wheelchairs,” participant Linda Drummond said.

“There were even 20 or 30 people watching.”

The celebration made its Newcastle debut last year, and the follow-up had more Kates with better moves following a successful group rehearsal.

The arrival of a dismayed latecomer on Saturday even prompted an encore.

“We had someone get caught in the roadworks and show up late with her full outfit, so we asked ‘is anyone keen to do it again?’” Ms Drummond said.

“Everyone was. You don’t put on green eye shadow for nothing.”
