It brought a tear to Paul Harragon’s eye.
Twenty years on from holding aloft a historic premiership trophy the former Knights skipper, better known as Chief, was overwhelmed when surrounded by his 1997 teammates and 20,535 adoring red and blue fans at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.
Before clapping the current squad onto the field and embarking on a lap of honour the grand final group was greeted by an all-familiar but unscripted crowd chant of “New-cas-tle”.
“It makes me really emotional,” Harragon said.
The majority of that celebrated squad attended the milestone reunion, which coincided with the club’s annual old boy’s day, including Scone bred try-scoring hero Darren Albert, Matthew Johns and Robbie O’Davis.
