BEACH WATCH

Strong north-easterly winds are set to continue and a few showers on the forecast are making it a bad day for the beach. Choppy conditions with no protection. Swell from the east at around a metre. Winds north-east, freshening as the day goes on and seeing bigger morning high tides with the new moon approaching. Southern corners are sanding up. Try the shore breaks at Newcastle Beach, South Bar and Merewether early. Birubi up at Port Stephens; Redhead and Frenchmans to the south. The water temperature is 18 degrees.

HUNTER BOATING

Winds Northeasterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore south of Port Stephens in the evening. Seas 1.5 to 2 metres. Swell Southerly below 0.5 metres, tending northeasterly 1.5 to 2 metres during the morning. Weather Cloudy. 80% chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm.
